Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 25

A free concert, a gift drive and a chance to decorate cookies for charity.

1. Drop-in and Decorate. Create-a-Cook will be hosting a "Drop-in and Decorate" cookie decorating event today from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. During the event, you can stop in to decorate cookies that will be donated to The Second Step organization. The event is free and all supplies will be provided.

2. Free concert. The Charness Family Quintet will give a free 20th anniversary reunion concert today at the Newton Free Library. The performance starts at 2 p.m. and will include works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Martinu, Prokofiev as well as songs by Dan Charness. 

3. City of Newton Holiday Gift Drive. The Village Bank is partnering with the city again for the annual holiday gift drive. Donations of gift certificates and new, unwrapped gifts for children ages newborn to 10 will be accepted from November 19 through December 14 at Village Bank locations in Auburndale, Newtonville, Nonantum, Newton Highlands, Waban and West Newton.

5. Fiscal year 2013 assessments posted. The city of Newton has posted its property assessments for fiscal year 2013. Check out the city's Assessor’s Database to view fiscal year 2013 assessed values.
