Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 26

School Committee meets, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan is in town and an acoustic open mic at a local pub.

1. It's Cyber Monday. That's right, the Monday after Thanksgiving typically means big sales for online retailers as well as some "brick and mortar" stores that sell their goods online. If you find a good Cyber Monday deal in the Newton community, post it on our Facebook wall!

2. School Committee. The Newton School Committee will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the Education Center. The meeting will include the district's yearly enrollment analysis as well as a proposal to handle some short-term space needs. Prior to the meeting, at 6:45 p.m., the committee will hold a caucus to vote on the committee leadership for 2013. [Updated 4 p.m.]

3. Congressman Tim Ryan. Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan will speak this evening at Newton South High School. The event, which starts at 7 p.m., will include discussion of Ryan's book "A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice can help us reduce stress, improve performance, and recapture the American Spirit." Tickets are $10.

4. Acoustic open mic. Mick Morgan's Family Pub will feature an acoustic open mic tonight starting at 8:30 p.m.
