Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 28

A blood drive, a meeting with the mayor and an author event at the New England Mobile Book Fair.

1. Blood drive. The Newton Free Library will host a blood drive today from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. 

2. Coffee connect. The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce will host a Coffee Connect this morning at 8 a.m. at Eastern Bank in Newton Centre (1255 Centre St.) Stop by for an hour of networking and conversation. 

3. Meeting with the mayor. Mayor Setti Warren will hold a community meeting this evening at Jackson Gardens (JFK Circle) in Nonantum at 6:30 p.m. If you have questions or concerns about the proposed override or ideas on how to improve the village of Nonantum, stop by and join the conversation.

4. Event at the NE Book Fair. Noah Gordon, author of The Physician and Shaman, will speak tonight at the New England Mobile Book Fair. Gordon will discuss his latest book, The Winemaker. The event begins at 7 p.m.

5. Public Facilities. The Board of Aldermen's Public Facilities Committee will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in room 209 at City Hall. The committee will hold a public hearing for the schematic design and site plan approval for the proposed new Fire Station 10. A full agenda is included in the .pdf to the right.
