Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 1

School Committee meets, the Board of Aldermen meets and more Walk/Bike Week events.

1. School Committee. The Newton School Committee will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Education Center. The agenda for tonight's meeting includes an item on the district's preschool program as well as discussion on the district/city Capital Improvement Plan. 2. Board of Aldermen. The full board will meet tonight at 7:45 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chamber at City Hall. Tonight's reports docket includes an item related to the re-zoning of the Austin Street municipal lot to allow for a mixed use development. 3. Walk/Bike Week Events. This week is the first ever Newton Walk/Bike Week and there are a number events going on around the city. The West Suburban YMCA will hold an open house today and any non-member can come in and sign up to take a class this week for free. In addition, the Y will be giving away reflective gear for those who walk or bike to Y.

4. Community Gallery. Did you attend Newtonville Village Day, Jazz in the Yard or one of the other community events held in Newton over the weekend? Add your photos to our Community Photo/Video Gallery! We'd love to share your shots with the Newton community. 

5. Newton Bluefish awards night. The Newton Bluefish Swim Team will hold an awards night tonight for its summer team. The event will be held in the cafeteria at Newton North starting at 7 p.m.
