Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 14

The Harvest Fair continues, the Green Solutions Expo and Paddy's Road Race.

1. Paddy's Road Race. The annual Paddy's (Pub) Road Race, or The Shillelagh Shuffle, will take place today starting at 9 a.m. with a kids festival at West Newton Playground. This West Newton tradition supports the Newton Special Athletes program. The youth races and children’s festival kicks off at 9 a.m., the 1K is at 10:30 a.m. and the 3-mile race starts at 11:30 a.m. The post race party includes food, beverages, music, raffle and awards.

2. Harvest Fair & Green Expo. The Newton Harvest Fair will continue today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Newton Centre Green and Parking lot with kiddie rides, craft booths, pumpkin decorating, food and more. A Green Solutions Expo will also take place at the fair today starting at 11 a.m. The Circle of Caring at Hospice of the Good Shepherd will also host its annual “Big Feat” 5K Memorial Walk at the Harvest Fair. Registration for the walk starts at 12:30 p.m. and the walk starts at 1 p.m.

3. Free concert. The Boston Artists Ensemble will give a free concert today at the Newton Free Library. The concert will be held in the Druker Auditorium and starts at 2 p.m.
