Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 20

Homestead Hayfest, Scarecrow Walk and a library celebration fill up today's schedule in Newton.

1. Scarecrow walk. The Newton Parks & Recreation Department and the Nahanton Nature Center have set up the annual Scarecrow Walk for this weekend at Nahanton Park. Stop by between 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. for scavenger hunts, crafts, apple cider, nature walks and, of course, all the scarecrows. 

2. Burr Coop Yard Sale. The Burr Cooperative Nursery School will hold a multi-family yard sale today from 9 a.m. - noon at the United Parish of Auburndale. All proceeds will benefit the Burr Cooperative Nursery School Playground Fund. 

3. Celebrity Autobiography. "Saturday Night Live" veteran and comedian Rachel Dratch will appear tonight at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center to perform in "Celebrity Autobiography." 4. Happy Birthday, Waban Library Center! The Waban Library Center will celebrate its third birthday tonight with an evening of music and dancing. The event starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $35. 

5. Homestead Hayfest. Historic Newton will host its annual Homestead Hayfest today at the Jackson Homestead & Museum from noon - 5 p.m. Activities include butter making, candle dipping, cider pressing and more.
