Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 22

Train delays, Newton Restaurant Week and School Committee meets.

1. School Committee. The Newton School Committee will meet tonight at 6 p.m. in the Education Center (note the earlier time). 

2. Train delays. CSX will be performing signal cutover work on the Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line today. As a result, passengers could experience delays in excess of 15 minutes.

3. It's Newton Restaurant Appreciation Week! The first-ever Newton Restaurant Week launched yesterday and will continue through Thursday, Oct. 25. .

4. Free concert at BC.  Callithumpian Consort will perform this evening at Boston College's Gasson Hall (Chestnut Hill campus), room 100. The performance will include works by John Cage, Tristan Murail, Christian Wolff, Earle Brown and Morton Feldman. The free concert starts at 8 p.m.

5. Newton Sept. 11 Memorial. The Newton Sept. 11 Memorial in Newton Centre is nearly completed. The 9-11 Memorial Committee has a limited number of bricks still available for engraving. To purchase a 1-3 line engraved brick for the walkway to the memorial, call Sande Young at 617-527-1726 or email Ssyspts33@aol.com and she will send an engraved brick form with directions.
