Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 7

A free concert, free museum admission an open houses to check out.

1. Free concert. The Newton Free Library will host Christopher Coritsidis, violin, and Maria Pikoula, piano, for a free concert this afternoon at 2 p.m. The two will play works for piano and violin by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms and Bartók

2. Free museum admission. According to a press release issued last week, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders in the area can receive free admission to a number of Boston museums today including the American Textile History Museum, the Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA) and the Museum of Fine Arts. Photo ID and a valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card must be presented at the time of visit. There is also free admission for Newton residents today at the Jackson Homestead and Museum from noon - 5 p.m.
