Police Log: Shoplifting; Alleged Drunk Driver Flees Crash Scene

Shoplifting at Pink Domino

Police responded to Pink Domino in Newton Centre on Nov. 2 after an employee reported a shoplifting that had occurred earlier in the day.

According to reports, a woman came into the store around 3 p.m., tried on a few items and left the store without incident.

Roughly 30 minutes later, the employee went into the changing room and found four tags that were taken off the clothes the suspect tried on.

The suspect was described as a white female, approximately 5'4" tall, in her 40s with brown shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a grey and black shirt and a pair of grey shoes, reports said.

Alleged drunk driver leaves the scene

A Tewksbury man was arrested on Nov. 3 after he allegedly drove drunk, struck a pole and left the scene of the accident. 

According to reports, police responded to Central Street for reports of a red SUV that had struck a pole in the presence of a Lasell College Police officer. The driver then fled the area.

After receiving the report, Newton Police located a red Honda Pilot SUV with heavy front-end damage. While speaking with the driver, police smelled a strong odor of alcohol and noticed he had slurred speech, glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet.

As a result, Donald S. Berube, 22, of 32 Lee St., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of property damage.

Tires left flat

A Fayette Street resident told police Nov. 3 that someone broke the valve stems off his tires sometime overnight, resulting in two flats. The incident happened sometime between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Nov. 3, reports said. 

Stolen bicycle

A David Road resident told police Nov. 3 that someone stole his BMX-style bicycle from his front yard. According to reports, the grey "Diamondback" bicycle was stolen sometime overnight.

Shoplifting at Apple Store

Police responded to the Apple Store in the Mall at Chestnut Hill Saturday after employees reported a shoplifting incident.

According to reports, two males stole four iPhone 5 16G phones from the store's display table. The incident happened at 4:18 p.m.

The suspects were described as two Hispanic males approximately 6' tall, 18- to 20-years old wearing jeans, "oversized" dark jackets and Chicago Bulls hats. 

Domestic incident leads to arrest

A Newton woman was arrested Nov. 3 after police responded to Oak Cliff Road for reports of a domestic incident.

Leah Ann Fine, 26, of73 Oak Cliff Road, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery, police said.
