Ready for Snow? Winter Weather Forecasted for Newton

The area could get a couple inches and power outages are possible.

While it might feel a bit too early for the first serious snow, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and High Wind Warning for the Newton area.

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. tonight to 8 a.m. Sunday, with two to five inches of heavy, wet snow predicted for the area.

Rain is expected to start after 2 p.m. today, eventually mixing with snow. The precipitation will change over to all snow sometime overnight, mainly after 3 a.m.

Wet snow coupled with strong wind gusts have the potential to knock out power, so be prepared with food, flashlights and some extra batteries. 

Strong northeast winds are expected between 20 and 30 mph, with some gusts up to 55 mph.

Precipitation is predicted to go back to a rain/snow mix on Sunday, tapering off by early afternoon. The wind will also continue through Sunday.
