'Spring Fling' to Feature Local Authors, Raise Money for Newton Library

The Newton Free Library's Spring Fling will be held this Saturday, April 6th.

Well-known names in literacy, news and radio will come together this weekend for the annual Newton Free Library Spring Fling.

The celebration will be held Saturday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. and will include hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and discussion with some of the area's best known authors. 

Hosted by Newton author William Novak, Saturday's celebration will include presentations from sports writer Jackie MacMullan and Boston Globe Editor Brian McGrory.

MacMullan, who is a writer and contributor to ESPN and espnboston.com, is the author of "When the Game Was Ours" and "Shaq Uncut: My Story."

McGrory, a former White House correspondent and longtime Globe columnist, is the author of four political thrillers as well as his most recent memoir, "Buddy: How a Rooster Made Me a Family Man."

Saturday's event will also feature remarks from Honorary Chair Tom Ashbrook, host of NPR's "On Point." 

Tickets for the Newton Free Library Spring Fling are $125 and available online. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of library materials.

Note: The library will close early on Saturday, at 4 p.m., for the Spring Fling.
