What's Closed in Newton on Columbus Day

This is one of those strange holidays where what's open and closed might surprise you.

Newton city buildings: Closed.

Newton Free Library: Closed.

Newton Public Schools: Closed.

Federal offices: Closed.

Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only.

Banks: Closed. (Newton's TD Bank locations are open).

Stock market: Open.

Retail stores: Open.

Liquor stores: Open.

Supermarkets: Open.

Convenience stores: Open.

Taverns, bars: Open.

Trash/recycling pick-up: Delayed by one day.

MBTA: All subways, buses, trackless trolleys and the Silver Line will run on a Saturday schedule. The Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line will run on a regular weekday schedule. Check the MBTA's website for more details

Correction: The stock market is open today.
