Author to Discuss Comedian Allan Sherman at the JCC

Author Mark Cohen will discuss his book, Overweight Sensation: The Life and Comedy of
Allan Sherman
at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish
Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Thursday, December 5 at 7:30pm.
Cohen chronicles the story of how Allan Sherman’s Jewish song parodies won him fame
and success in the 1960s and brought Jewish comedy into the mainstream. Sherman
is best known for songs such as Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh! (A Letter from Camp), and My Zelda.

Moderated by Cantor Jeff Klepper of Temple Sinai in
Sharon, the evening will include a sing-a-long of Sherman’s greatest hits.

The event is open to all. The
program is part of the Ryna Greenbaum JCC Boston Jewish Literary Series. Cost
is $8. Purchase tickets at www.bostonjcc.org/bookfair
or contact 617-965-5226 or boxoffice@jccgb.org
