Soldiers will march,
musket volleys will echo, and campfire smoke will fill the air when the
recreated 28th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry of the legendary Irish
Brigade–historically raised from Newton and surrounding towns– descends on the
Jackson Homestead for a Civil War encampment. Visitors can witness military
drill, stroll through camp, learn about the lives of common Civil War soldiers,
and talk with both men in the ranks and civilians who supported them on the
home front. Children's activities - including 19th century toys and games, as
well as mock drill led by one of the 28th's soldiers - will be offered along
with a special program of presentations and exhibitions.

Free.
