2012 Paddy's Road Race

The following is a press release issued by the Parks & Recreation Department:


Paddy’s Road Race, The Shillelagh Shuffle, will take place on Sunday October 14.


Come join over 2,000 participants in the New England Runner Pub Series grand finale. This three-mile road race has all the touches of Ireland including bagpipes, Irish step dancers and shillelaghs.

In addition to the race, Paddy’s is now offering a 1K Youth and All Abilities Race. This race caters to youth ages 14 and under and athletes with disabilities of all ages.


Race day also includes free youth field races for children ages 1-12 and a kid’s festival at West Newton Playground.

This West Newton tradition supports the Newton Special Athletes program, one of the largest community-based therapeutic recreation programs for people with disabilities in all of New England.  Many athletes from their track team participate in this road race making the Shillelagh Shuffle truly an inclusive and unique event.


The youth races and children’s festival kicks off at 9 a.m., the 1K is at 10:30 a.m. and the 3-mile race starts at 11:30 a.m. The post race party includes food, beverages, music, raffle and awards.
