Dear friends and soon-to-be-friends,
Please join us at the Meeting House Child Care Center, located inside the First Baptist Church at 848 Beacon Street in Newton Center, anytime between 5-7 pm on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, for a bone marrow donor drive.
Our close friend Shira Klein, a beautiful, vibrant, 35-year-old wife and mother of three, has been battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for nearly two years. Chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant using her own stem cells yielded brief remissions, but Shira has relapsed and now needs a stem cell transplant from a donor. Please see the letter below from Shira’s husband, Justin, for more information about her treatment. We hope you will reach out to members of your community and encourage all eligible people to have a simple cheek swab test that may help save Shira’s life or the life of another.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
1. Please join us on Wednesday, January 16, anytime between 5-7 pm to get swabbed inside your cheek - a non-invasive, quick way to get a sample. Testing for a match is easy – if you are between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good health, you can get swabbed at our local drive. There is no cost to you to get swabbed.
2. Donate. While there is no cost to get swabbed, there are costs associated with processing the tests and getting them into the registry. Consider making a monetary contribution to defray the costs of testing for others. Send donations to our nonprofit tax deductible organization (status pending); Smiles 4 Shira, LLC, 63 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank New Jersey 07701
3. If you have any questions or would like to get swabbed but cannot join us on January 16, you may reach out to Doug Slater at 917-363-7391 or Kelly Taylor at Delete Blood Cancer, firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you so very much for your help.
