Nativity Carols from Piae Cantiones, Renaissance Ensemble

The United Parish of Auburndale adult choir will offer nativity carols from Piae Cantiones on Sunday December 16th during the 10am worship service.  Accompanying the choir will be a renaissance ensemble, including recorder, lute, a consort of gambas, and percussion.

Piae Cantiones was published in Finland in 1582, barely one hundred years after the advent of moveable type.  The collection gave birth to some of the most well-known carols of all time.  It contains songs dating from the 900s to the 1500s and ranging from the Mediterranean to the Baltic.

Hearing these great medieval and renaissance carols as they may have been first heard during the Christmas season will surely be a joyous experience.  All are welcome.
