Love Among the Rugs

On Thursday the eve of Valentines Day, Pro Arte will bring it’s salon series to a surprising location. Beethoven in a rug store? Why not! Titled “Love Among the Rugs,” the concert will feature chamber music by Beethoven, Mozart and Dvorak played to an audience sitting on and around beautiful, hand-woven rugs from the Middle East.

Fusing classical traditions from world cultures, the salon offers a striking juxtaposition of different patterns, textures, colors and sounds. The fusion of western sound with Middle-Eastern weaving has historical precedent. Morton Feldman, a composer of intricate, patterned works, kept several Anatolian rugs in his apartment and was inspired by their colors and patterns.

What most attracts Pro Arte to the space, however is its intimate feel. Chamber music is all about personal relationships played out in sound, and the cozy atmosphere promotes comfortable, delightful concertizing as attendees enjoy tasty snacks from local food joints.
