Rhythm and Pearls & Exit 17 at Ryles

Come and get happy with a night of your favorite hit tunes from 2 Newton-based groups. Vocal trio RHYTHM AND PEARLS and Jazz/Rock band EXIT 17 will present an eclectic double bill of vocal and instrumental hits from yesteryear and yesterday, with a mix of styles and eras that adds up to great sounds, infectious beats, and just plain fun.  Tickets at http://www.rylesjazz.com 

RHYTHM AND PEARLS will give you "Salute to the Girl Groups", their singing and dancing review of girl group hits past and present. Featured groups range from The Andrews Sisters to The McGuire Sisters, The Chordettes to The Marvelettes, The Supremes to The Spice Girls. This unique, high-energy show pulsates with classic harmonies and choreography. You'll hear songs like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Something's Gotta Give, Please Mr. Postman, You Just Keep Me Hangin' On, Fire, and Wannabe. RHYTHM AND PEARLS has performed throughout the region at various events and venues, including the Encore Lounge, Neiman Marcus Natick, the Newton Cultural Alliance Spring Fest, and a sold-out show at Union Street in Newton Centre. Bill Winiker says, "RHYTHM AND PEARLS brings a gorgeous sound, lush harmonies, and an irresistible energy to these great songs. They make any event a celebration!

EXIT 17 is a band focused on preserving and interpreting great tunes from last 50 years, not to mention rockin the house with material ranging from Marvin Gaye and Steely Dan to Dr. John and Morphine. Merging at the intersection of Funk, Soul, Jazz, Rock and Blues, the seasoned pros, teachers and students of old school who make up EXIT 17 come from diverse musical backgrounds and influences. Various band members have studied at Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory and the Boston Conservatory of Music.

Members have performed with the likes of Ben E. King (Stand By Me), The Coasters, Chuck Berry, The Drifters, Tavares, Chaka Khan and Rufus, The Monks Of Funk and Stingy Brimm. Originally formed in 2006, Exit 17 plays at local events such as The Rally to Re-elect Barney Frank and the Brookline Arts Center Gala, and venues like Smokin' Joe's, Union Street and The Putnam Grill.
