The Street in Chestnut Hill Debuts Luminescence, an Awe-Inspiring Light Installation By Renowned Artist Pandora LaCasse

At 6:00pm on Wednesday November 20, 2013, THE STREET, the region’s primary destination for culture, shopping, dining, and entertainment, will kick off the holiday season with the debut of Luminescence, an awe-inspiring light installation created by the regionally acclaimed artist and sculptor Pandora LaCasse.

Luminescence is comprised of 40, 900 LED bulbs and 72 whimsical spheres ranging from 20 to 45 inches in diameter. Making THE STREET sparkle and twinkle all season long, 66 of the spheres will be hanging from the trees lining the destination’s open-air walking space between Hammond Pond and Route 9. Another six spheres will be found in front of THE STREET’s various storefronts, lending themselves to ideal holiday photo opportunities for spectators. Depending on the day, the forms will glow in white, white and red, or white and blue.

In signature LaCasse style, the installations are made with a modern and eco-conscious mindfulness. LED lights use a tenth of the electricity that incandescent lights do. Bulbs are wrapped around spring wire and stainless steel tubing, and for an ultra advanced take, they are powered on and controlled by THE STREET’s Wireless Internet.

Intermix, which just opened its doors at THE STREET and is renowned for its well-edited collections of up-and-coming and established designer apparel, will host a holiday party immediately following the lighting.
