The Tebow Effect – Why Do We Pray?

What
are the uses of prayer? When is it appropriate to pray – and for what? Issues
of prayer, once again in the national spotlight due to quarterback Tim Tebow’s
on-field demonstrative praying pose, will be at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish
Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Tuesday, November 19 at
7:30pm.

Participating
in the discussion will be Rabbi Larry Hoffman, professor of liturgy, ritual and
theology at Hebrew Union College in New York; Blu Greenberg, an American writer
specializing in modern Judaism and women’s issues; and Diana Eck, professor of
Comparative Religion and Indian Studies at Harvard University.

The discussion will be moderated by Leonard Fein,
an author and essayist whose columns have appeared in The New York Times, The New
Republic
, and The Nation.
