Newton Collecting Cell Phones, Other Items to Send to the Troops

Items will be collected at the City Hall Open House on Dec. 31.

The City of Newton will hold an open house at City Hall on Dec. 31, and encourage people to bring cell phones and items to put in care packages to send to active-duty members of the military.

The phones will go to Phones for Soldiers, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans. There will be a drop off spot in City Hall.

City officials also will organize a Care Package Collection drive to gather items to send to the troops. Items include 

The used cell phones are turned into minutes for the troops. Annual "Care Package" Collection drive clothing, toiletries, snack foods and games to be sent to our soldiers serving overseas. See exactly what items are requested by clicking here.

Items can be dropped off in Room 209 in Newton City Hall on Dec. 31 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The dive is part of Mayor Setti Warren's New Year's Eve Open House and Inaugural Celebration. The Mayor's Office will also accept donations if you are unable to come on Dec. 31.
