Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 28

A free concert, the anniversary of Irene and a chance for Newton South students to work out their schedules.

1. Free concert. The will host a free concert tonight with pianist Naho Bessho, who will perform solo works by Carl Maria von Weber, Felix Mendelssohn and Franz Liszt. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Druker Auditorium. 

2. Auditions. The at for its upcoming production of A.R. Gurney's Love Letters. Auditions will be held from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. tonight and Thursday night. The theatre group is looking for men and women ages 20 to 50. Actors should prepare a monologue approximately two minutes long, preferably not from the show. There is a possibility the audition will include cold readings from the script and a short interview. Interested actors can email ncpauditions@gmail.com for an audition appointment time.

3. Farmers' market. The will set up at today from 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

4. One year later. One year ago today, Tropical Irene slammed into the Boston area, destroying tress and power lines and leaving numerous Newton residents without power. and .

5. Arena Scheduling Day. 's Arena Scheduling Day will be held today from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the Student Center. This is a time when guidance counselors will be available to resolve scheduling issues prior to the start of school next week. A full Arena Day schedule is available on the Newton South website
