Five Things You Need to Know Today: June 23

A wiffle ball tournament, a family road race and a chance to learn about beekeeping.

1. Road race & family field day. The will hold its 19th Annual Angino Memorial Road Race and family field day today. The three-mile road race is open to the whole family and anyone who wants to run or walk the route. The events kick off at 8:45 a.m. and proceeds will benefit Dreamfar High School Marathon (DHSM) and the West Suburban YMCA’s Annual Fund. 2. State Police sobriety checkpoint. The Massachusetts State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Middlesex County tonight into tomorrow. Drive safe!

3. Learn about bees. The will host an event today with local beekeeper Susan Whelan, who will talk all about starting your own beehive. The event will run from noon - 2 p.m.

4. Wiffle ball. The will take place today at the starting at 9 a.m. There will be a tournament for wiffle ball teams as well as other activities for families. All funds raised support the Arthritis Foundation. 

5. Sept. 11 memorial fundraiser. The Newton 9-11 Memorial Committee has  to raise money for the future Newton Sept. 11 memorial. To purchase a one- to three-line engraved brick for the walkway to the memorial, call Sande Young at 617-527-1726 or email Ssyspts33@aol.com and fill out the brick form on the committee's website.
