Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 12

A rabies clinic, a housing forum and an art reception.

1. Housing forum. The Newton Housing Partnership, the Fair Housing Committee and Planning Development will be host a forum tonight titled "Financing Affordable Housing and Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing in Newton." The educational forum will include information on fair housing as well as a question and answer period. The forum will be held at 7 p.m. in the chamber at . 

2. Rabies clinic. The city of Newton will host a rabies clinic this evening at Newton  in Newton Centre from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The clinic is open to all dogs or cats that are accompanied by someone 14-years old or older and the cost is $10 per pet. For a three-year rabies vaccine, pet owners must bring proof of previous vaccination. For more information, call the Health and Human Services Department at 617-796-1420.

3. Art reception. The will host a reception tonight for the Newton Art Association's 63rd Annual Awards Show. The works in the show include photographs, paintings, sculpture and prints from more than 80 members and will be displayed in the library through Sept. 27. Tonight's reception starts at 7 p.m. and will include $1200 in prizes to members whose works have been selected by Howard Yezerski, this year's judge.

4. Rosh Hashanah meal tasting. The at Four Corners will offer samples of Rosh Hashanah meal items today from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

5. Author event. Leah Hager Cohen, author of The Grief of Others, will appear at tonight at 7 p.m.
