Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 20

A special film screening, an author event at the library and the Upper Falls Area Council meets.

1. Historic Newton Book Club. The Historic Newton Book Club will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson Homestead and Museum to discuss The Greater Journey by David McCullough. The book club is free and always open to new members.

2. Newton Upper Falls Area Council. The Council will meet tonight in the Emerson Community Center at 7 p.m. John DiMiceli from the Newton Tree Conservancy will be giving a presentation about the tree planting program. Other Upper Falls matters will also be discussed.

3. Boys & Girls Club Annual Meeting. The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton, route: {:controller=>"listings", :action=>"show", :id=>"john-m-barry-boys-girls-club-of-newton"} --> will hold its  and former member of the writing faculty at Harvard University, as well as a former admissions director at Sarah Lawrence College and principal of the McGinty Consulting Group.
