Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 25

A 5 Percent Day at Whole Foods, free coffee and more.

1. 5 Percent Day at Whole Foods. The Whole Foods will hold a "5% Day" today for the Newton Boys and Girls Club. What does this mean? Five percent of the store's total sales today will benefit the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club. 

2. Free coffee. McDonald's is offering free coffee to its customers this week (Sept. 23-29) in honor of National Coffee Day. Patrons will receive a free small hot Newman’s Own Organic coffee, with no purchase necessary. Newton has two McDonald's locations: Needham Street and California Street.

3. Farmers' market. The Newton Farmers' Market will set up today at Cold Spring Park from 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

4. Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur begins tonight at sundown. Make sure you check our events calendar for local services. 

5. Mayor Warren to speak at Newton Rotary Club. After launching his re-election campaign last night, Mayor Setti Warren will visit the Newton Rotary Club today for its weekly meeting at the Brae Burn Country Club. Those who would like to hear Warren speak, or to find out more about the Rotary Club, are welcome to attend. If interested, please email Chris Chu, Membership Chair, at hcchu@comcast.net. The meeting starts at noon.
