A free concert, a swearing-in ceremony and Public Facilities Committee meets to discuss solar panels on Newton schools.

1. Swearing-in. Two new Newton Police officers will be sworn in this morning at . The ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. 

2. Public Facilities Committee. The Public Facilities Committee will meet tonight at 8 p.m. in room 209 at . One item up for discussion tonight includes a long-term lease with Ameresco Solar Inc., a solar photovoltaic firm. The deal would include installation of solar panels on five Newton schools including Newton North, Brown, Memorial-Spaulding, Countryside and Bowen. 3. Hazardous waste drop-off. Newton Residents are welcome to drop off household hazardous waste today at the from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. A list of accepted materials is available online. Keep in mind the drop-off will be canceled in the event of unsafe weather. Contact Customer Service during these times to confirm the drop-off is open.

4. Free samples. The at Four Corners will host a sampling event today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Customers can come in and sample a number of new items that came in during the summer.    

5. Free concert. The will host pianist Michael Brofman for a free concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Druker Auditorium. Brofman will perform Maurice Ravel's Sonatine and Franz Schubert's Sonata in B-flat Major.
