Showcase Superlux Takes Movie Viewing to a New Level of Luxury

Let's be honest right from the start.
Showcase Superlux is probably not the kind of place your average 16 year old is going to take his girlfriend on a Friday night.
On the other hand, for a couple seeking to add a touch of elegance to their weekly "date night," this might do the trick.
Showcase Superlux is located at 55 Boylston St., Chestunut Hill in the high end shopping center known as "The Street."
My wife and I tried it out Monday night, taking in the 7 p.m. showing of "Despicable Me 2" (LOL, love those minions!). We walked to our car at the end of the night having thoroughly enjoyed the experience but agreeing that it was a treat that we probably could only afford once or twice a year.
At it's core, the principle behind Showcase Superlux is similar to that of the "Chunky's" chain. Patrons have the chance to enjoy dinner and a movie at the same time.
But while Chunky's offers mostly pub fare, Superlux offers a gourmet menu featuring appetizers such as Charcuterie and House Smoked Salmon, a variety of salads and spring rolls and entrees including Herb Grilled Chicken and Jumbo Pan-Seared Scallops.
There is also a selection of burgers and sandwiches, deserts and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
I had the Lobster Campanelle, while my wife enjoyed the Korean Sirloin Steak. Both were outstanding.
The seating for the movie was amazing. To begin with, seating is limited to about 80 seats per theater, allowing for plenty of room. Each seat is a leather recliner, with finger operated controls.
So in addition to a delicious meal, we had remarkably comfortable seats to enjoy the film.
As you might suspect, all of this luxury does come with a price tag. The tickets for an evening show are $28 each but come with a $5 food and beverage voucher. Entrees run from about $16-$24. Burgers and sandwiches range from $12-$14.
But for traditionalists, popcorn and movie theater candies are also available.
Pricey? Yes. But the value of the experience matches up with the price.
