Detroit vocalist to make her first East Coast concert appearance at Highland Jazz series.

Kathy Kosins, whose recent CD release:"To the Ladies of Cool" has attracted wide critical acclaim, headlines Highland Jazz's Saturday night, March 9 th concert at Newton South High School.

The Chicago Reader raved about Kosins' "solid intonation, unwavering swing, and a voice that can both conjure the girl next door and her older wiser sister, harnessing the esseence of the song with imaginative interpretations and sassy savoir faire". Kosins will honor the West Coast Cool artistry of these jazz vocalists: Anita O'Day, June Christy, Chris Connor and Julie London backed by Tim Ray, piano, John Lockwood, bass, and Jon Hazilla, drums.

The March 9 concert is the third in the 2012-2013 Highland Jazz series. The Newton entity is a non-profit, volunteer organization that is celebrating its 30th year of jazz concert presentations. It is the oldest, continuous, community series in New England. Tickets for the concert can be purchased online at www.highlandjazz.org or by calling 781-237-1917.
