Stop Newton's Fiscal Folly

From William Heck

Joshua Norman's column, "Newton is a city, not a school district," [April 30, page B3] illustrates that Newton compulsively spends money, especially in its schools, with no expectations for performance and outcome.  Year after year, the costs of our schools rise well above inflation rates while school rankings decline.  In the meantime, our city infrastructure and services suffer.  Newton schools are a fool's game, and this is extraordinarily unfortunate.  Let's stop the fiscal folly, it's time for proper management of our financial resources, stewardship of our assets, and clear expectations of more for less from our government.
