Emily T. Woo, 92, of Newton, passed away peacefully at her home on March 23, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Woo was born in Naking, China in 1920 and was the oldest of six. She was sent by her parents to America as the Japanese occupation threatened their safety in China, according to her obituary. She attended Park College in Missouri and eventually Wellesley College, where she earned a degree in physical hygiene.
Woo is survived by her husband of 68 years, Way Dong Woo, with whom she traveled all around the world. Together the two had five children.
While bringing up the children and maintaining a full-time job, Woo earned a masters degree in library science from Simmons College. She went on to work as a research librarian at several local academic institutions, her obituary read.
Woo was known for her cooking, her singing as well as her skills at both tennis and mahjongg.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emily T. Woo Scholarship Fund at Wellesley College.
