John Hoang Sarvey, 45, Former City Year Staffer and Father of Two

A memorial service for Sarvey will be held this morning at the First Unitarian Society in Newton.

John Hoang Sarvey, 45, of Newton Centre, passed away unexpectedly during Thanksgiving weekend. 

Sarvey was a former staff member at City Year, serving as City Year's first national alumni director and as the executive director of City Year San Jose and City Year Boston, according to the City Year website

Most recently, Sarvey worked as executive director of Northeastern’s School of Public Policy & Urban Affairs, according to a post on the Village 14 blog

A memorial page for Sarvey and his family has been set up on Facebook for those wishing to receive updates and/or offer messages of support. 

Sarvey is survived by his wife, Rachel d'Oronzio Sarvey, and their children Elijah and MeeJee, according to his obituary. Sarvey also leaves behind his father, step-mother, three brothers and his wife's extended family.

A memorial service for Sarvey will be held Monday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at the First Unitarian Society in Newton. According to Sarvey's obituary, a memorial fund will be announced soon.
