Smoke alarms in Newton Corner??

For the past several weeks, random houses in my Newton Corner neighborhood will suddenly have all their smoke alarms sounding.  It's been *very* weird to say the least... One night, we came home to find all the alarms in our upstairs neighbor's condo going off - the noise was deafening.  They were away, but had left us their key, so fortunately we were able to go upstairs and 1) make sure their place wasn't on fire, 2) turn the ear-piercing things OFF!!  But then the next day, the same thing happened in a neighboring house.  And then in another house down the street the day after that.  This morning, I am now hearing three distinct houses in my neighborhood with all their alarms blaring.  What the heck is going on in Newton Corner to make this happen????
