Alleged Serial Carjacker Named by Police

Police have identified the 28-year-old man who was arrested Monday afternoon in Bedford after allegedly committing armed carjackings in Haverhill, Newton, Billerica and Concord late Sunday night into Monday afternoon.

Donald Hall, of Everett, is facing multiple charges, according to a joint release Monday night from Bedford, Billerica, Concord, Carlisle and Newton police departments. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning at his hospital bed.

According to an initial investigation, Hall may have committed a carjacking late Sunday night in Haverhill. He then dumped that car at Ashmont Road and Crafts Street in Newton at about 5:15 a.m. Monday, authorities believe.

Early Monday afternoon, Hall allegedly knocked on the front door of a Lincoln Road home in Newton and told the resident that he had struck her vehicle. Hall then went into her home and stole the keys to her Acura, before fleeing in the vehicle, according to police.

Two Newton police officers spotted Hall driving the stolen vehicle in West Newton, police said. One of the officers exited his cruiser, and, with Hall “aggressively driving toward him,” he fired his service weapon at Hall. It was unknown Monday night if Hall was struck, according to the release.

While fleeing, Hall struck three vehicles near the intersection of Washington and Watertown streets in Newton, injuring one occupant, who has been treated for non life-threatening injuries at an area hospital, police said.

Next, Hall allegedly carjacked a Toyota Tundra pickup truck from 240 Nashua Road in Billerica, before fleeing to Concord, where he shot at police officers who returned fire between 915-1140 Concord St., according to police.

Authorities believe Hall then drove to Concord, where he carjacked a Ford Flex SUV from a pharmacy parking lot at 91 Lowell Road. After that, he allegedly drove toward Hanscom Air Force Base, before making an abrupt U-turn and heading into Bedford.

At this time, Bedford police officers deployed spike strips, which Hall ran over, according to police. With his tires punctured and police in pursuit, Hall crashed into a utility pole and then a tree at Oak Ridge Lane and Springs Road in Bedford, according to the release.

“This dangerous, armed felon clearly showed he was willing to put innocent people in harm’s way,” Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno said in a statement. “I’m very proud of the quick thinking of my officers in deploying spike strips, which helped bring an end to this incident.”

Hall was transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington with serious but non life-threatening injuries, according to the release. Police allegedly found a firearm in the vehicle Hall was driving.
