Arrests for Stealing Van Parts, A&B; Man Swiped Trench Coats from Bloomingdales
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.
On May 9, Newton police responded to the AT&T store at 3 Boylston St. for a past larceny. Someone had stolen a blue Samsung GS3 mini cell phone from the display case.
On May 10, at 4:50 a.m., Newton police spotted a grey sedan heading south on Nevade Street make a Uturn at Churchill Street to reserve direction, parking next to the Nevada Street exit of the lot. A white man entered the lot on foot carrying a backpack, and looked around the parking lot constantly. Police walked along the fence line and heard a loud, continuous metal cutting sound coming from under a van. James Moretto, 29, 70 Dodge Front Rd., Concord, NH, was arrested and charged with attempt to commit a crime (stealing car parts), receiving stolen property more than $250, malicious destruction of property more than $250.
On May 10, a person visited police headquarters to report that a vehicle drove by his residence on Webster Street and that the operator was taking photos of his house.
On May 10, police responded to Bloomingdales for a larceny that had occurred the prior evening. The security officer reported that a dark-skinned man wearing dark clothing and a cap left the store with three Chanel lambskin trench coats.
On May 10, police took a report for stolen trash barrels from a residence.
On May 11, police responded to Truman Road for a report of domestic situation. Jinyan Liu, 43, 12 Truman Rd., Newton, was arrested and charged with A&B and intimidation of a witness
