Boston Man Busted for Stealing $500K in Jewelry, Art in Newton

Man was convicted of breaking into two homes on the same street in Newton.

A jury found a Boston man guilty of breaking into a Newton home and stealing more than $500,000 in jewelry in art, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced.

George Correa, 50, of Boston, was found guilty of breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and larceny in a building following a jury trial in Middlesex Superior Court.

Correa and unidentified accomplices broke into a home on Boylston Street in Newton by climbing through a second story window. They attempted to disable a home security system by ripping it from the wall, but the alarm alerted authorities.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Heidi Breiger sentenced Correa to 20 years in state prison for the breaking and entering and five years in state prison for the larceny charge. The defendant is already serving a 10 year prison sentence for another breaking and entering case, and the new sentence will be served from and after the defendant’s current sentence, according to Ryan.

“This defendant has a history of breaking and entering, violating people’s homes and stealing valuable items,” Ryan said. “This verdict takes a career criminal off of our streets for a very long time.”

Correa stole valuable jewelry and artwork from the home. He also dragged a 300-pound safe out of the home before fleeing from the scene. Items reported stolen including diamond earrings, several men’s and women’s gold watches and diamonds bracelets, and two original oil paintings valued at over $15,000 each.

While awaiting trial on this case, Correa was convicted of another breaking and entering that occurred on this same street in Newton five months earlier. In that case, he was sentenced to no less than 10 years to no more than 10 years and one day in state prison.
