DA Confirms Body Found in Reservoir is Missing Boston College Student

Officials say Garcia's death was likely accidental.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office confirmed today that the body found yesterday in the Chestnut Hill Reservoir is, in fact, missing Boston College Student and West Newton resident Franco Garcia.

According to a press release issued Thursday afternoon by the DA's office, state pathologists "conclusively identified" the body as Garcia.

Garcia's body , seven weeks after he went missing from a Cleveland Circle Bar.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet ruled on the official cause or manner of death, the press release said, pending further toxicological testing.

However, the examination revealed that Garcia did not have any broken bones or other serious injury. Those findings, along with the items found on the body such as cash and other personal effects, "are consistent with an accidental fall into the water."

State Police Spokesman David Procopio said yesterday that although State Police divers spent four days in the water during the reservoir search, it is possible that Garcia was tangled up in thick grass and weeds and was not detected by sonar cameras or divers.

State Police detectives assigned to the DA's office will continue to investigate Garcia's last hours, the press release said, and anyone with any information about Garcia's activities on Feb. 22 is urged to 617-727-8817, ext. 1, or Boston College Police at 617-552-4440.
