Friends of Alleged Marathon Bomber Denied Request for Out-of-State Trials
Three of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's friends allegedly helped him get rid of a backpack, laptop, and fireworks after the bombings.
Three friends of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are set to go on trial later this year for allegedly getting rid of a backpack, laptop, and fireworks that belonged to Tsarnaev as authorities hunted for him.
Azamat Tazhayakov, Dias Kadyrbayev, and Robel Phillipos appeared in federal court in Boston Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing, according to the Boston Herald.
Attorneys for the men argued that the trials should be held out of state because of the publicity surrounding the events. A judge denied the request.
The attorneys are also trying to suppress statements that the trio made to police.
The following trial dates were set:
- Tazhayakov, June 30
- Kadyrbayev, Sept. 8
- Phillipos, Sept. 29
About 800 potential jurors will be interviewed, according to the Herald.
Tsarnaev is set to go on trial in November.
