Judge To Hear Burbine Castration Motion

Accused serial sex offender is facing dozens of charges that could potentially result in life in prison.

Written by William Laforme

Accused serial sex offender John Burbine has reportedly offered to undergo a medical castration procedure in exchange for significant time off his potential sentence.

report in the Boston Herald Wednesday quoted Burbine’s attorney, Bill Barabino, as saying his client would want a “massive” reduction in his sentence in exchange for undergoing the procedure, which could in theory dramatically lower his risk of re-offending.

Burbine is a former Wakefield resident who was arrested last year and charged with more than 100 crimes involving the sexual abuse of children. His wife, Marian, is facing related charges stemming from an illegal day care business that she ran with her husband.

Barabino and the Middlesex County DA office were expected to make their respective arguments in court Wednesday on the motion. A spokeswoman for the DA's office declined to comment before the hearing on whether they would be inclined to support Burbine's motion.
