Man Steals One Sneaker; Phone Nabbed Off Wall; OUI Arrest; Rash of Car Breaks

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

On May 30, police responded to Church Street for a past B&E. Person reports that around 10 a.m. that day he heard his front door open, but was upstairs at the time and looked outside and didn't see anyone. 

On May 30, police responded to a report of past threats. 

On May 30, police responded to a report of a stolen trash barrel. 

On May 30, police responded to 3 Boylston St. at AT&T for a report of larceny. A cell phone was stolen off the wall and replaced with dummy phone. 

On May 30, police responded to the YMCA for a report of past larceny. Sometimes between 6:30-7:30 p.m., a bike was stolen from the rack out front. It was a lime green Mongoose. 

On May 30, police resounded to 1400 Block Commonwealth Ave. for a report of attempted B&E. The residence was damaged and there was sign of forced entry. Person was in the shower and had heard the door bell but ignored it. Nothing missing. 

On May 31, police responded to Christina Street for a report of past attempted B&E to a MV. Car was in the driveway and someone tried to smash the driver's side window. 

On May 31, police responded to a past B&E to an MV. Car was unlocked. Winchester Street. 

On May 31, police took a report for past threats and will seek a hearing for a 30-year-old man (name not released). 

On May 31, police responded to a car break on Pennsylvania Ave. 

On May 31, police responded to Bernard St. for a B&E to a motor vehicle. It was broken into over night. 

On May 31, police responded to Pennsylvania Ave. for a B&E to an MV. Car was unlocked. 

On May 31, police were at the intersection of Centre Street and Commonwealth Ave. and spotted a 2004 Toyota traveling northbound on Centre Street. The car failed to stop for a red light before turning onto Commonwealth. Police pulled over the car, and Maki Iwatsuki, 32, 6 Heritage Farm Rd., Haverill, was arrested on two warrants. 

On May 31, police received a report that a pair of sneaks were stolen from a man while attending a sneaker swap. He said that his Air Jordans were taken while stored underneath a booth. After one sneaker was missing, a man approached him to offer to buy the remaining single sneaker. He believes the man is the same one who took the first sneaker. 

On June 1, officers responded to Upland Ave for a past attempted B&E. 

On June 2, at 1:55  a.m., officers responded to Beacon Street and Center Street for a report of a single-car accident. When police arrived, they saw that the car was on the wrong side of Beacon Street and was partially on the curb, having sustained front end damage and a broken axle. A mail box and "no parking" sign at 825 Beacon St. had been smashed and knocked over about ten feet. Bryce Charles Summers, 19, 238 Dorset Rd., Newton, was arrested and charged with OUI liquor, open container in a motor vehicle, minor in possession.
