Newton Firefighters Quickly Douse Fire on Freeman Street

The fire was called in just before 11:30 a.m. for a home at 64 Freeman Street in Auburndale

Newton firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire on Freeman Street this morning that broke out just before 11:30 a.m.

The fire seemed to have started in the kitchen and may have been the result of an electrical issue, according to Newton Fire Department officials on scene. However, crews are still investigating the scene and an official cause has not yet been determined.

Firefighters doused the flames before they could extend to the second floor, officials said, but there is smoke damage throughout the home.

No one was home at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported, officials said.

Neighbor Cynthia O'Hare, who lives just up the street, said she believes the homeowners moved into the property just two or three years ago. The house has also had some renovations done in the last few years.
