Newton Man Busted for Drugs During Watertown Traffic Stop

An Watertown Police officer pulled over a Newton man for having a suspended license and discovered the man had drugs in the car.

On July 23 at 8:28 p.m., an officer patrolling on Pleasant Street by Rosedale Avenue ran the registration of a GMC and found the owner had a suspended license, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

“He stopped the vehicle on Pleasant and during an inventory search of the car a large amount of prescription pills were found in the center console cup holder,” Lawn said.

The pills were identified as Percocet and Alprazolan, Lawn said.

Anthony J. Proia, 45, of 311 Nevada St. Apt. 1 in Newton, was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, possession of a Class B drug and possession of a Class E drug.
