Newton Man Charged with Home Depot Theft

The Natick Police Department supplied the following information. Arrests or charges do not indicate convictions.

John Jefferson Smith, 51, of Boylston Street in Newton, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. on July 10 in Natick and charged with larceny over $250.

According to police, an officer was sent to the Home Depot on Speen Street in Natick for a report of a male shoplifter fleeing the store. The man was described as white, with a white top, and gray hair, and he took off near the Avalon Apartments.

A couple of minutes later, the man was in custody and police learned there was a second man involved in the scheme. That man was described as black, in his 30s, with black cargo pants, with a white shirt. 

Police searched the area but were unable to find him.
