Newton Police: Attempted Break-in on Temple Street Thursday Afternoon

Both the Peirce School and Temple Shalom were notified and children were brought inside.

The Newton Police Department is investigating an attempted break-in that occurred Thursday afternoon at a home Temple Street, near Peirce Elementary School.

The attempted breaking and entering was reported around 1 p.m., according to a Newton Police Nixle alert sent out Thursday afternoon. A female was home at the time of the incident and last spotted the suspect running through the back yard.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black mask. The woman also reported the man had a holstered gun.

According to police, both Peirce Elementary School and Temple Shalom were notified of the incident. Children were brought indoors and doors were locked as the two buildings are in the area near the attempted break-in.

The Newton Police Department's K-9, Dakota, was deployed to the scene along with a number of officers. The search turned up negative.
