As the officer swerved to avoid hitting the car, the cruiser started to slip on the wet road and jumped the curb, Apotheker said. The officer then knocked over a sign and hit a parked car with the cruiser.

The officer, who has been with the department for more than seven years, was the only person involved in the crash, Apotheker said.
