Newton Police Log: Armed Robbery, Fight at Chestnut Hill Mall

The following arrest information was supplied by the Newton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 26:

Newton Police served a warrant on Curtis Street. Youhyun Cho, 45, of 7 Curtis St. in Newton, was arrested on the warrant for larceny by check.

July 27:

A man entered Dunkin Donuts on Needham Street carrying a gun and yelled at the employees to “get on the ground,” and “don’t move and make be do anything stupid.” The man jumped over the counter, opened the register and took the cash. The suspect was described as possibly black, about 5-foot-8, wearing dark jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt with the words “AND1” written in white. He also had black gloves and a face mask.

A resident came to police after receiving a phone call from a man saying his name was Mr. Masaly Soto and he had his father and needed $1,500 to let him go. The man sent the money by Western Union to Puerto Rico, and then spoke to his father, and realized it was a scam.

A peeping tom was spotted standing on a third-floor fire escape on Commonwealth Avenue. A couple was in bed and spotted the man and screamed. The suspect ran away.

 

July 28:

A Ford Focus struck a tree on Chestnut Street and airbags deployed. Police found a leafy green substance in a vacuum packed bag believed to be marijuana, and a large amount of cash. Ron Grinberg, 18, of 10 Lucy French Way in Ashland, was issued a citation for marked lanes violation and violating a city ordinance for possession of marijuana.

A man came into Bloomingdales and took two purses – a red Diana Bamboo Borsa Celarrious purse and a GG Phyton Running black purse. The suspect is described as a skinny black male, about 5-foot-9, wearing a baseball cap, a white button-up shirt and khaki shorts.

Several police officers went to the Chestnut Hill Mall for a reported fight. A woman came into the Brooks Brothers to return two items, but an employee believed they had been stolen. The woman became angry and began to yell. The employee left the mall about an hour later and was approached by the woman who hit her on the side of the face with a water bottle. The woman then said if she came any closer she had a knife. Police arrested Rosie Hurst, 51, of 26 Lyndhurst St. in Boston, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – a water bottle, threats to commit a crime and was cited for possession of marijuana.

 

July 29:

Police dealt with a domestic incident. George Haggie, 26, of 18 Green Court in Newton, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery on a person age 60 or older.
