Newton Police Log: Bike Thieves Caught, Jewelry Stolen, Stolen Vehicle Found

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 21

Police summonsed a 40-year-old man from Weston to court on a charge of threats to commit a crime. 

A cell phone was taken from a man's coat while he was at Super Cuts. He left his coat in the waiting area while he got his haircut and his iPhone was taken. 



Nov. 22

Two people left their bicycles on a friend's lawn while the were visiting and they were stolen off the lawn. A witness saw two men take the bikes. Police located the men. Theodore Jacobs Kornfield, 21, of 20 Buswell Park in Newton and a 15-year-old male from Newton were each arrested for larceny over $250. 

Police arrested Paul Hunt, 55, of 232 Melrose St. Apt. 2 in Newton, on a charge of assault and battery.

Police arrested Christopher M. Sirianni, 25, of 50 Harrington St. in East Falmouth, on a warrant from Wareham District Court for receiving stolen property.

Two women left Sports Authority with items that set off the security device. When an employee said he might have forgotten to take off the security tags, the women ran and got into a Saab. The suspects were described as black females. 

A cell phone was taken from a display at a store at 3 Boylston St.


Nov. 24

A 15-year-old male from Newton was arrested on Silver Lake Avenue for assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and witness intimidation.

Police arrested George Ng Xie, 54, of 29 Pleasant St. in Newton, on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

A Russell Road resident came home and found her back door had been broken and her jewelry box was missing. Her gold jewelry, including wedding rings, earrings, chains and watches were gone.


Nov. 25

A man left his vehicle running outside of Grocery Garrison and went in for 3-5 minutes. When he returned the vehicle was gone. An officer found the car nearby - about 100 yards - in a parking lot at 1 Bridge St. The motor was running and the vehicle was in gear. There was no damage.
