Newton Police Log: Caller Threatens Man's Wife, Pickup Stolen

The following arrest information was supplied by the Newton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 10:
A Honda Ridgeline pickup truck was reported stolen by an Arapahoe Road resident. It was last seen on July 9 parked on the street.

Police arrested a man on two warrants. Nicholas Paola, 53, of 327 Cherry St. in Newton, was arrested on a warrant from Newton District Court for two counts if wanton destruction of property over $250 and one count of carrying a fire arm without a license; and a warrant from Boston District Court for driving with a suspended license, failing to wear a seatbelt and improper operation of a motor vehicle.

A resident told police he received a call from a man claiming he was holding his wife hostage. The caller also said he had the man's brother and had hurt him. He told the man he would kill them if he did not give him personal information. The man hung up and called his wife, who was safe at home. Then the caller called again asking for the info. The caller had an Indian accent, police said.
