Newton Police Log: Car Drives Into Roadwork Area, Car Broken Into

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 12:

Someone broke into a car on Wells Avenue. A woman was working out at Boston Sports Club at around 10 p.m. and when she came out her alarm was going off.

Aug. 13:

Police found tire tracks on the grass between the Gath Pool and Murphy Baseball Field on Albemarle Road. It appears the driver drove onto the grass and then back onto the street.

An officer found a car with an insurance violation through the cruiser’s automatic license plate reader. The officer stopped the driver, a 48-year old man from Belmont, and found he had a suspended license. He was also cited for having revoked insurance and driving with a revoked registration.

A bicycle was stolen from a home on Deborah Road. The men’s, blue Cannondale bike was taken from the garage.

A Needham man came to the police station to report a stolen iPhone 5. The man believes he left the phone on the counter while he was paying for a purchase at Marshall’s. He tried calling the phone but it went straight to voicemail.

Aug. 14:

An officer on detail at a roadwork project on Boylston Street saw a car pull drive past his cruiser, then pull into the area coned off where a crew was working. The car then drove away but was stopped by the officer. The driver had glassy eyes and a “1,000 yard stare.” Sarah Caitlyn McRell, 35, of Watertown, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and marked lanes violation.
